You guys, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and spent it with your most favorite people eating lots of fattening food and relaxing. We did exactly that and then some! The gym was PACKED this morning by the way, which got a good chuckle out of the regulars…I was perplexed that someone was on “my” elliptical machine at 8:30, which NEVER happens!! But hey, the good thing is that there were people in the gym, exercising and doing good stuff to stay healthy, so two thumbs up for that.
Anyway…It’s Dec 1st, and in my book, that’s the official start of the holiday season…this means lots of NYC twinkling lights, gatherings with friends and family and shopping! I personally love this time of year because I get to give to the people I love the most. I know it can feel like a chore trying to figure out what to get everyone on your list because let’s face it, none of them probably “need” anything. A few years ago, I decided to stop buying everything in sight because I wanted a lot of gifts under the tree. Now we just do gifts with special meaning. I’ve limited the amount of stuff (which in turn alleviates me having to find storage space for it!) we get because quite frankly, it can be overwhelming. We’re so busy preaching the meaning of Christmas and the meaning of giving but we’re not necessarily following that message ourselves. Let’s just keep it simple and be grateful for what we have to begin with.
On that note, today is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Now you all know I love to give back, especially through my Pay It Forward Friday’s, so when this came up I immediately jumped on board. What’s not to love about giving back? What a great way to kick off the holiday season! There are so many worthwhile charities and organizations where you can make a donation along with local businesses, food banks, or even a person or family you may know who is fighting a personal battle. Whatever your cause, whatever your belief, start off your holidays by giving back to someone who really needs it. This season is not about the gifts you get, it’s about what you can give to others.
