You guys, it’s been an insane few weeks here at my house with a lot of crazy stuff going on behind the scenes. I’ll spare you the details but for today’s pay it forward I think I’m just going to request lots and lots of hugs. Hugs can be therapeutic, healing, helpful, encouraging…I know a few people who could use them right now, so if you wouldn’t mind, take a minute today to give some extra hugs and make them extra long ones. Stop and soak in the feeling of being loved. I’ve been doing some reminiscing the last few days, looking at pictures from years ago, telling the kids stories of when I was younger…stuff we did, places we went, etc. Trying to get them to understand that today is much more than the TV and the iPad. Much more than the test they took in school. Last night as I was putting them to bed we all cuddled and did our usual monster hugs (that’s what the little one calls the group hug) and we talked about our day, the usual routine. I told them a story about their dad’s Uncle Bobby who recently passed away unexpectedly. I told them that he lived exactly the way he wanted to, he was creative and funny, he was genuine. And even though we didn’t see him that often, there’s a soft spot in our hearts for him and he will be missed. I told them to live their lives like that…to always be kind, to be genuine, to be true to themselves first and the rest will fall into place. I tell them that a lot. Then I gave them extra hugs and kisses and laid there until they fell asleep. Treasure the little moments, they go by in a flash. Celebrate all of it, the good and the bad…it’s what makes you who you are. Be kind, be genuine, be yourself. Give lots of hugs every day.
Rest well Bobby Melnick…you were loved and appreciated more than you know.
